Digital rights

We work on ten digital rights themes

Our foundation is based on the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, the UN General Comment 25 about children’s rights in their digital environment and the European Declaration on Digital Rights and Principles. These are our ten themes.

Everybody

In the digital world, all children and young people should always be able to participate without being left out.

All access. A safe digital environment must be available to everyone.

No poverty. If you don’t have that much money, you should also be able to access online.

Without disability. If you have a disability, you must also be able to be active online.

No discrimination. In the digital world, everyone is equal. No one can shut you out.

Chances

In the digital world, all children and young people must always be able to develop well and be given sufficient opportunities.

Good learning. You must be able to learn well in an online world that you also understand well.

Develop yourself. You must be able to develop yourself online in order to have sufficient opportunities.

Being creative. You have the right to also play digitally and be creative.

Right help. Adults should help you online, especially if you’re having a hard time.

Fair

The digital world must be easy to understand for all children and young people and their own interests must always come first.

Interest children. You have the right that your interest in the digital world comes first.

Right information. Digital information must be correct and suitable for your age.

Do not bully. Even if you are online, no one should bully or sexually abuse you.

No abuse. Organizations may not misuse you online for their own interest.

Opinion

In the digital world, all children and young people must be able to participate and always be able to give their opinion safely.

Everyone participates. Everyone has the right to participate online and express their own opinion.

Listening well. Organizations must also really listen to you when you are online.

Make together. Organizations need to involve you when they create online games, websites and apps.

Free to share. In the online world you are free to share your opinion and thoughts.

Freedom

In the digital world, all children and young people should always be free to think, believe and do anything.

Being free. You can do whatever you want in the digital world, but sometimes you need guidance.

With respect. You also have respect for each other online, without hatred, bullying and violence.

Do not influence. Organizations may not deliberately influence you in a smart digital way.

Digital space. You have the right to meet others online through, for example, social media, apps and games.

Active

In the digital world, all children and young people should always be able to learn well and also have a good time in their spare time.

At school. School must ensure that there is a safe digital learning environment for you.

Spare time. You have the right to relax digitally with games, art and culture.

Do not gamble. You are not allowed to gamble online or work if you are too young.

With guidance. Adults should also be able to guide you online in the right way.

Healthy

The digital world must always be good for the physical and mental health for all children and young people.

Good care. In order to take good care of you, information about your health must be available online.

With trust. Everyone must also treat digital information about your health confidentially.

Correct information. There must be reliable information online for your health.

Enough rest. Don’t sit behind your screen for too long and make sure you get enough rest, sleep and exercise.

Privacy

In the digital world, it must always be clear to all children and young people that they always have sufficient privacy.

Own identity. From birth you are also entitled to your official name online.

Use data. Make sure you know what is done with your personal data online.

Understand well. Information about your online privacy must be easy to understand for you.

Pay attention. No one is allowed to pretend to be you online. Be careful what you share about yourself.

Safe

In the digital world, all children and young people must always be adequately protected and safe.

Safe environment. You have the right to a safe digital world with adequate protection.

Help in danger. If you experience something dangerous online, you should get help right away.

Good protection. The online protection must be in line with what you can and understand.

Real age. Organizations must check your age online to protect you.

Rules

In the digital world, everyone, including all children and young people, must always deal with all the rules.

Clear language. Your digital rights must also be explained to everyone online in understandable language.

Do not falsely accuse. They must not falsely accuse you by using smart techniques.

No child labor. Companies are also not allowed to abuse you online and therefore not let you work for them.

Fair punishment. If you do something wrong online, you should get a punishment appropriate to your age.
